Android One-Player Games
Here are some games that I found to be interesting or fun, at least for awhile. In all of these games you play by yourself or against the computer. These are video games or board games that you "play" (rather than puzzle games that you try to "solve").
For more one-player games, see:
App developers sometimes add or change or remove features, so there might be some differences between my descriptions (below) and the current versions of some apps.
Tapping Games
2 Cars
by Ketchapp (free) - You control two cars at the same time, trying to hit as many circles as possible. Tap the left side of the screen to make the red car change lanes, and tap the right side of the screen to make the blue car change lanes. If either car misses a circle of its color, or hits a square, then the game is over.
99 Problems
by mamau (free) - Tap anywhere on the screen to make the yellow square jump into the air, staying alive as long as possible by avoiding all of the obstacles. The game starts at checkpoint #99, and if you survive long enough to reach checkpoint #98 then the 98 will turn white for a moment. If you die before reaching checkpoint #97 then you'll start over at checkpoint #98, and so on.
Beamer
by Perun Labs (free) - Tap the left or right sides of the screen to move the red square. It can climb over obstacles which are the same height as the red square, and it can safely fall for a short distance. There will usually be squares of other colors moving back and forth, and they'll destroy the red square if they touch it. At various places there will be "flashlights" embedded in the ground, which are teleportation devices (except for the blue flashlights, which are walls that can be turned on or off). If you land on a yellow teleporter (for example), it will beam you to another yellow teleporter, and so on. If a green square (for example) lands on a green teleporter then it will be beamed to the corresponding green teleporter, but it will ignore teleporters which aren't green. The goal on each level is to reach the red teleporter.
Bouncy Ball 2.5D
by RAON GAMES (free) - Tap the left or right side of the screen to move the bouncing yellow ball to the left or right. Use the various objects (avoiding any dangerous obstacles) to help you reach the yellow star.
City Blitz
by Cadaeic Studios (free) - A nice
Missile Command
game. Missiles are coming down from the sky to destroy the cities at the bottom of the screen, and you must tap one of your three guns to select it, then tap in the sky below the missiles to fire the gun and destroy the missiles.
Duet
by Kumobius (free) - Tap the left and right sides of the screen to rotate the red and blue balls around a circle. The object is to prevent the red and blue balls from touching any obstacles so that you stay alive as long as possible.
Jettison
by ATesh Games L.L.C. (free) - The goal is to avoid the traps and collect the key(s) and then exit through the door. You're wearing a jetpack which allows you to fly by tapping the screen, but your fuel (colored orange) will quickly run out. Walking on the ground will quickly replenish your fuel. The only way to change directions is by bumping into something.
Little Luca Free
by Glowingpine Studios (free) - The object is to get the white ball to the goal (the black hole with a flag in it). You control the ball by tapping the screen at the appropriate time. There are different "things" which can affect the ball's trajectory when you tap the screen, such as wind and large fluffy ball-like things and so on. What makes this game so much fun is that in addition to trying to aim the ball just right, you also need to figure out how to get the timing just right. On most levels it's not too difficult to get the ball to the goal, but the real challenge (and fun) is trying to collect all three stars. Sometimes it seems impossible to get all three stars on each level, but it can be done.
Orbital FREE
by bitforge Ltd. (free) - Tap anywhere on the screen to fire an orb from the cannon. When the orb stops moving, it will grow as large as it can until it hits something. The number inside an orb indicates how many times you must hit it (with another orb) in order to remove it from the screen. If an orb moves toward your cannon and crosses the "death line" above your cannon then the game is over. The goal is to remove as many orbs from the screen as possible. To play against a human opponent, tap the second icon at the bottom of the initial screen.
Pivot
by NVS (free) - A blue circle is moving in a circular path, and when you tap the screen then the blue circle changes direction. The goal is to hit as many white circles as possible. If you hit one of the moving rectangles, or if you hit a wall, then the game is over.
ROB-O-TAP
by Invictus Games Ltd. (free) - The robot will automatically follow the trail of energy capsules (food capsules?), and you must tap the screen at the appropriate times to move the obstacles out of its way.
Rope Escape
by Deemedya m.s. ltd. (free) - You're an adventurer swinging through the jungle on ropes, and your goal is to travel as far as possible. Tap the screen to launch yourself from a catapult. As you fly through the air, tap the screen to shoot a rope in the direction of your tap. If the rope hits a tree or some other object then you'll be able to swing like Spiderman to cover more distance. Tap the screen to release the rope.
Rope Swing
by Rho games (free) - Tap the screen to release the colored ball which is sitting near the top left corner of the screen. As the ball is falling, tap and hold your finger on the screen. This will create a rope between the ball and the small dot near the center of the screen. As the ball swings on the rope, lift your finger to drop the ball onto the rectangular block at the bottom of the screen. If the ball stops near the center of the block then the "score multiplier" at the top right corner of the screen ("x1") will be incremented. Each time the multiplier is incremented (x2, x3, etc.), this enables you to get much higher scores. If a ball misses the block then the multiplier is reset to x1.
Shoot the Apple
by DroidHen (free) - Tap the screen to fire a rag doll (which looks like an alien) at the red apple. If any part of the rag doll touches the apple then you win the level. The tricky part is to get the aiming and the timing right so you use as few rag dolls as possible in order to get all three stars on each level.
Skyward
by Ketchapp (free) - On the "home" screen of the app, tap near the top of the screen to play. A blue or brown circle will be rotating around a yellow path, and you must tap the screen when the circle is entirely on the yellow path. Then another circle will begin rotating around the yellow path. The goal is to stay on the yellow path for as many steps as possible.
SpaceBase Zap
by blogular (free) - A decent version of the
Space Zap
arcade game. Your spaceship is in the center of the screen, and enemy ships will fire at you from the top, bottom, left, and right edges of the screen. When a ship appears at the top of the screen (for example), first you need to tap the top part of the screen to turn your ship toward the enemy ship, then tap the top part of the screen several times to fire several bullets. The object is to stay alive as long as possible in order to get a high score.
Stickman Base Jumper (Free)
by Djinnworks e.U. (free) - Stickman is standing on a tall building, and he needs to parachute safely to the spot which is marked with a red flag (before the timer runs out). Tap the screen to make him walk away from the edge of the building, then tap again to make him turn and run towards the edge of the building, then tap to launch him into the air. At the appropriate time, tap to deploy his parachute. In the blue box at the top left side of the screen, the upper red dot is Stickman and the lower red dot is his landing zone. This gives you an indication of how much of a running start he needs, and it lets you know when he's getting closer and closer to the landing zone. If he lands between the two poles (one on each side of the red flag) before the timer runs out then the lights on top of the poles will turn green and you get to move on to the next level. At the top right side of the screen, long-press the "magnifying glass" icon to zoom out so you can see where the landing zone is. To the right of the magnifying glass is the "pause" icon. Below these two icons is the wind indicator, which shows the direction and speed of the wind. Below that is the timer. This is one of those simple games that you keep wanting to try just one more time.
Treemaker
by Mikrotie Ltd (free) - Swing Treemaker on ropes to collect the tree seeds. Tap the screen, and Treemaker will cast a rope in the direction of your tap. If the rope hits an object then Treemaker will swing on the rope. Tap the screen to make Treemaker release the rope and fall onto the tree seed (you can tap the screen while Treemaker is in the air so it will swing again). If a stack of blocks is in Treemaker's way, cast a rope onto a block to pull down the blocks. If Treemaker touches a colored platform, or if a block falls onto it, it will die. Use pinch-to-zoom to see more of the playing area.
Board Games, Etc.
42
by Droid 42 (free) - A nice
42
game, which is similar to the Spades card game but played with dominoes. To play, tap the triangular "play" icon in the center of the playing field. Tap the icon in the center of the playing field to select your bid (if the "curved arrow" button appears then you can tap it to change your bid). If you win the bid, tap the triangular "play" icon to select the trump suit (if the "curved arrow" button appears then you can tap it to change the trump suit), then play your first domino. If you don't win the bid then tap the triangular "play" icon in the center of the playing field to begin the game (the trump suit is displayed at the top left side of the screen). Tap one of your dominoes to play it. Tap the "Display Tricks" button to see all of the tricks which have been played. If a red button with a white "X" appears at the bottom right corner of the screen then you've lost the hand. If a green button with a white checkmark appears at the bottom right corner of the screen then you've won the hand. In either case you can tap the button to end the hand immediately, or you can play out the remaining dominoes.
Backgammon Free
by AI Factory Limited (free) - A nice
Backgammon
game. Tap the "Roll Dice" button to roll the dice, and the pieces which you can move will be highlighted. Tap a piece which you want to move, and the legal destinations for that piece will be highlighted. Tap a destination for your selected piece, and the piece will be moved. Tapping the "Menu" button brings up three options: Tap the "question mark" icon to get a hint for what play to make. Tap the "paper with lines on it" icon to display the current game statistics. Tap the "wrench" icon to bring up the Game Options menu.
Dominoes
by Carl Hopf (free) - A dominoes app which allows you to play the Draw, Block, and Muggins domino games. Assuming that you're Player 1, your dominoes are in the top left corner of the screen (plus they're displayed at the bottom of the screen), and your opponent's dominoes are in the top right corner of the screen. To play a domino, drag it from the bottom of the screen into the playing area, and your legal moves will be highlighted. Drag the domino into a highlighted area and lift your finger off of the screen, then you'll see the domino sliding from the top left corner into the position that you selected. If you can't play a domino then tap the circular icon at the bottom right corner of the screen (just above your displayed dominoes) to draw a new domino. Use pinch-to-zoom for zooming in or out, and slide your finger to move the playing area. To play with two or more human players, tap the "Singleplayer" button on the main menu and then tap the "Versus Bot" button to change it to "Local Players."
Doublemill 2 Nine men's morris
by +1 Labs (free) - A nice version of the ancient
Nine Men's Morris
game, better than the other Nine Men's Morris apps that I've tried. Tap "Freeplay" and select the type of opponent to play against (novice up to grandmaster). Both players start the game with 9 stones, and on each turn you tap an intersection on the game board to place a stone there. After you've placed all 9 of your stones onto the game board, on each turn you drag one of your stones to an adjacent empty spot. If you make a "mill" (3 stones in a row) then the 3 stones will flash and you can tap one of your opponent's stones to remove it from the game board.
Five In A Row
by Libor Svejda (free) - This game is more challenging and more fun than the basic tic tac toe (or naughts and crosses) game because the game board is huge and the first person to make
five
in a row wins. After trying numerous five-in-a-row apps, this one is my favorite. Slide your finger to scroll the game board. At the top of the screen, tap the icon on the far left to create an online nickname (this doesn't seem to do anything on my phone). In the center at the top of the screen, the number of games won by you and your opponent are displayed. The two "magnifying glass" icons will zoom in or out. In the Setup menu you can change the game board to be the standard tic tac toe type of board or the
Gomoku / Gobang
type of board. To play with two human players, tap the "Opponent" pull-down in the Setup menu and then tap "Human on the same machine."
Gravity Wins
by ANDLABS (free) - This is a
Connect Four
game with a twist. After several moves, the game board will rotate clockwise, and all of the pieces currently on the board will be pulled by gravity to a new position. Tap any column to place a piece in that column.
Shijin Reversi
by Mange-Cailloux Games (free) - A nice
Reversi/Othello
game with a couple of interesting twists. You can play a standard two-person Reversi game against a computer or human opponent, but you can also play a three-person or four-person game against computer or human opponents. Another twist is that instead of the winner being the person who has the most pieces at the end of the game, you can play in "Reverse" mode so that the winner is the person who has the
fewest
pieces at the end of the game. To play, tap the "Play" button. Select human or computer players by tapping the middle button (which looks like a person's head or a computer screen) for each player. Change the color of the pieces by tapping the first button for each player. Add or subtract players by tapping the "-" or "+" buttons. Change the game mode (Classic or Reverse) by tapping the "Current Mode" button. Start the game by tapping the "Play" button. When it's your turn to play, your valid moves will be displayed (this feature can be disabled in the Options menu). To make a move, tap a valid square, then tap the square again. If you don't have a valid move then your turn will be skipped. Tap the "gears" icon at the top of the screen to open the Options menu. Tap the "question mark" icon to get a hint.
Video Games
Absorption
by iamRo (free) - Drag your finger to move the white circle (with a black "plus sign" in it) around the playing field. The goal is to get rid of the moving shapes by staying close to them until you've absorbed all of their energy. If the white circle touches the moving shapes, or the walls, or the yellow lines connecting the yellow triangles, then the game is over.
Angry Balls 2015 HD (AKA Wanda Ball)
by Pere Rajadell (free) - Use the slingshot to get the basketball into the basket. The "basketball net" icon selects the game mode in which you must make a basket as quickly as possible. The "star" icon selects the game mode in which you must try to hit all three stars in addition to making a basket. The "clock" icon selects the game mode in which you have a limited amount of time to make a basket. The "infinity symbol" selects the game mode in which you try to make as many baskets as possible. Tap the "circular arrow" button to reload the ball into the slingshot. Tap the magnifying glass to zoom in or out.
Angular Velocity
by Luke Allen (free) - The object is to move the ball until it smashes through the window (which looks like a small red grid). To move the ball, tilt your phone. Tap on a green object to shoot a grapple which allows the ball to swing on a rope. When the rope is taut, you can tap the "spring" button to pull on the rope, which gives the ball a boost of energy.
Backyard Parking 3D
by Waldschrat Studios (free) - Steer the car, using the gas pedal and the brakes, to get the car parked into the designated space in the shortest time possible without hitting anything. The yellow arrows will guide you to the parking space, and when you've parked acceptably then the parking space will be outlined in blue. Sometimes you'll need to reverse into the parking space, and sometimes after you've parked you'll need to back up and park in a second space. Drag your finger around the screen to pan left and right.
Ball Resurrection
by Bouland (free) - A
Marble Madness
type of game. Tilt your phone to guide a ball over bridges and around obstacles to reach the goal. Also see Ball Voyage (below) and Crazy Ball 2 (below).
Ball Voyage
by WhoopGames (free) - Use the arrow buttons to control a ball which is rolling on an elevated platform, and get it to the goal. Swipe left, right, up, or down to change the camera angle. Sometimes you need to use the ball to push boxes into the proper positions to create a path that the ball can travel over. The round mines will blow up the ball, so don't touch them. Also see Ball Resurrection (above) and Crazy Ball 2 (below).
BloXoR
by Terminal Core Games (free) - To start playing, tap a level (level 1 is called "Hello BloXoR"), then tap the "Play" button. Tilt your phone until it's flat so the moving yellow diamond will line up with the white diamond in the center of the screen (this is for calibration, so the game can start with a perfectly level phone). The object is to tilt your phone to make the "O" and "X" and "O" tiles touch each other (in that order) to complete each level.
Bocce 3D
by Giraffe Games Limited (free) - A nice
Bocce
game. On the initial screen, tap the "red triangle" icon to start the game, then select the difficulty level and the country you're representing and the country you're playing against. The first ball to be thrown (either by you or your opponent) is the small red ball which is often called the "jack." You and your opponent each have four balls to throw, trying to get your balls as close to the jack as possible. To throw a ball, slide your finger to aim the green arrow (the longer the green arrow is, the harder the ball will be thrown), then lift your finger to throw.
Bowmaster Archery Target Range
by ChromegekkO (free) - After trying a number of archery apps, this one is my favorite. Select a distance to the target and the number of players (1 to 4), then tap "Start." Tap the screen if you want to skip the animation which shows where the target is. Place your left thumb near the center of the screen to see and position the bow, then use your right thumb or finger to pull back the string. Release one of your thumbs or fingers to shoot the arrow. This game is trickier and more realistic than the other archery apps I've tried.
Brick Breaker Special Edition
by Paleblue (free) - A nice
Breakout
game. Slide your finger left and right in the area below the paddle to move the paddle. In other Breakout-type apps, the ads are displayed below the paddle which makes it easy to accidentally tap on an ad. In this app, the ads are displayed at the top of the screen, which is a much better location. To release the ball when it's stuck to the paddle, lift your finger off of the screen. When you tap the "Quit" button to quit the app, the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons are in Korean. The "OK" button is on the left and the "Cancel" button is on the right. One thing I like about this app is that powerups fall from the sky fairly frequently, and another thing I like is that the levels can be cleared fairly quickly. After testing numerous Breakout-type apps, this one and Jet Ball (below) are my favorites.
The Building Game
by apesoup (free) - Use a crane to place blocks of wood into the designated area. Sometimes the blocks of wood need to be placed within the green area, and sometimes you need to build a construction out of wood which will reach the green area. The circular control on the left side of the screen moves the crane up, down, left, and right. The "Grab" button on the right side of the screen opens and closes the claw which is attached to the crane by a cable. After you complete a mission, move the claw away from the wood and then a timer will count down to 0 before allowing you to move to the next level. The trick is to go slowly and "finesse" the controls. The icon at the top left corner of the screen is the "pause" icon, which allows you to return to the Main Menu or turn the sound on/off or resume the game. The next icon will restart the level. The next icon will bring up the Settings screen.
Burning Sand 3
by Siebn (free) - A nice "falling sand" game, which is better than most of the other "falling sand" apps I've tried. To see some things you can do in this type of game, take a look at the videos in
these YouTube search results for "Burning Sand 3"
and
these YouTube search results for "falling sand."
You can play this game online and see the extensive Help file at
Burning Sand 3.
Also see Powder Game Viewer (below).
Chalk Ball Lite
by The Pill Tree (free). Keep the ball up in the air by drawing a chalk line under the ball so the ball can bounce in the direction you want it to go.
Clumpsball 2
by aera (free) - Slide the ball with your finger and try to get it into the bucket. If you miss, tap "Replay" and try again (the arrow shows the direction of your previous throw). You can also tap the ball and drag your finger, which will draw an arrow showing the direction that the ball will go. When you lift up your finger, the ball will shoot in the direction of the arrow (the longer the arrow, the faster the ball flies). The ball doesn't bounce very much unless you give it a lot of power (by sliding your finger quickly or drawing a longer arrow), which is a good thing because otherwise the ball would easily bounce out of the bucket. It sounds simple, but it's tricky enough to be fun.
Crazy Ball 2
by FreezeNova (free) - Use the thumb controller on the left side of the screen to control a ball which is rolling on an elevated platform, and get it to the goal (avoiding obstacles and collecting stars along the way). Use the "up arrow" button on the right side of the screen to make the ball jump. Drag your finger around the screen to rotate the camera angle. Also see Ball Resurrection (above) and Ball Voyage (above).
CubicTour
by GREE, Inc. (free) - Drag your finger to rotate the colored blocks in order to match the displayed shape. Before each level, you'll see a wire-frame cube with one edge flashing. To play the next level, tap the edge that's flashing. If you're able to match the displayed shape before it reaches you, you can tap the screen to get to the next shape immediately. If you don't match the displayed shape properly before it reaches you then you lose the level.
Darts Match
by Motionlab Interactive (free) - A nice darts game, which is better than any of the other darts games that I've tried. To play against the computer (or just to practice), tap the "Local" button, then select a game. To throw a dart, swipe your finger upward and then lift your finger off of the screen. The distance that you swiped, and the speed that you swiped, and the direction that you swiped, will determine where the dart lands. This is the best method of simulating the act of throwing a dart on a phone, compared to all of the other darts apps in the Google Play store
(Pro Darts 2014
uses the same method of throwing a dart, but I find that it's too easy to hit what I'm aiming for, and it doesn't have the Cricket game). Therefore, this game is more fun than the other darts apps. I find that it works best if I place my finger on what I'm trying to hit (e.g. the triple 20), then quickly swipe upward about half an inch, then release.
Doodle Grub - Twisted Snake
by PIXOWL INC. (free) - After trying numerous "snake" apps, this one is my favorite. In most snake games the snake can only move up or down or left or right, but in this game the worm can move in
any
direction (by tilting the phone), and the worm can cross over itself. Hold your phone horizontally or place it flat onto a table in order to activate the "Play" button. Eat the green apples to gain points (which makes the worm grow longer), but avoid apples with spots on them because they'll cause you to lose points. Each green apple is worth 10 times the number of segments in the worm, so the longer the worm gets the more points you get for each apple. When you see a red triangle at the edge of the screen it means that an enemy creature is about to enter the game area at that spot. If the worm runs into an enemy then the game is over, and if an enemy touches the worm's body then the worm becomes shorter (which means that each green apple is worth fewer points). If a ladybug touches the worm then the worm grows spikes for a few moments (until the timer bar runs out at the the top left corner of the screen), and you can now run into the enemies to destroy them. This game was designed to use OpenFeint for charting scores on leaderboards and posting achievements and so on. However, OpenFeint has been shut down, so just ignore the message which says that Feint requires an active network connection.
Double View - Impossible Game
by Tapps - Top Apps and Games (free) - Swipe left, right, up, or down to move the two particles around the obstacles in order to reach their green goals. The tricky part is that each half of the screen has its own particle and its own obstacles. Both particles start at the same place in their half of the screen, and both particles will turn when you swipe your finger, and the green goal for both particles is in the same spot in their half of the screen. But the obstacles are different in each half of the screen, which makes this a challenging game.
Drill Master
by cmyksoft (free) - This game is similar to
Lode Runner,
but the character is a construction worker with a yellow hard hat and a drill. You must move him left and right, and climb ladders, and avoid the rhinoceros, to collect all of the objects. When you collect all of the keys then the exit will open up, and you must reach the exit to go to the next level. Tap a brown or gray brick next to the character, and he'll drill a hole (the brown bricks will eventually heal themselves). If a rhinoceros falls into a hole that you've drilled, you can walk across his head.
Glow Hockey 2
by Natenai Ariyatrakool (free). A nice air hockey game. To play with two human players, tap "2 Players."
Glow Monsters - Maze survival
by Crescent Moon Games (free) - The object is to move the green character around the track, eating the white dots and avoiding the red characters (similar to Pac Man). If possible, try to get all three stars before their timers run out. There are one or more ladders which can be rotated to change the path that the characters will follow. The button at the bottom left corner of the screen causes the green character to reverse direction. The button at the bottom right corner rotates the highlighted ladder. The highlighted ladder is always the one which the green character will reach next, so you can highlight a different ladder by reversing the green character's direction.
Gravitomania
by Magical (free) - Use the left and right arrows to move the spaceman to the exit door in a space station. Tap the "curved arrows" icon to reverse gravity, and push the boxes into the path of red laser beams so you don't get zapped. Sometimes you must visit a gate control in order to raise a gate so you can reach the exit.
GRAVITY: DON'T LET GO
by Warner Bros. International Enterprises (free) - This game is based on the movie "Gravity," starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. You must accomplish several tasks by flying around in space outside of the International Space Station. The graphics and animation are well done, but the tasks are tricky to accomplish because everything is tricky in space.
GravityBot HD
(AKA GravyBot) by Daft Monkey Games (free) - Use the "clockwise" and "counterclockwise" buttons to rotate a jumping robot. The more you rotate the robot in the forward direction (for example), the farther the robot will jump in the forward direction. The object is to get the robot to the teleport device. If it hits an obstacle, or if it hits a green laser beam, then it will be destroyed.
Heartbreak Demo
by Cybearg (free) - Swipe your finger left and right to rotate the ring so that the colored ball will hit the same color on the ring. If a red ball hits a red section of the ring (for example), then that section will be removed. On the initial screen, tap the icon with a triangle in it, then tap a level number (if you've played at least one level). To start the game, tap anywhere.
Ice Breaker Plus!
by Pop Casuals (free) - Use a slingshot to shoot various types of bombs in order to destroy the ice sculpture. To finish a level, you must destroy at least 90% of the sculpture. The red bomb will stick to the sculpture, and it will explode after a short time. The orange bomb with three yellow things inside will explode when it hits the sculpture, but if you tap the screen before it reaches the sculpture then it will split into three smaller bombs. These smaller bombs will only explode if a nearby explosion touches them. The teal bomb with three green things inside can go through the sculpture without touching it, and it will release a small bomb each time you tap the screen (up to three times). These small bombs will only explode if a nearby explosion touches them. The blue bomb can go through the sculpture without touching it, and you can guide the bomb (slightly) by swiping your finger in the direction you want the bomb to go. Sometimes a new bomb will appear for a limited time somewhere around the sculpture. If another bomb explodes near that new bomb, then the new bomb is added to your arsenal.
Infinite Tower
by Digital Samurai (free) - A game of quick reflexes. Hold your finger on any square, and the boy will move from square to square toward your finger. As you move your finger, the boy will follow your finger. On each level, the goal is to get the boy to the ladder in order to advance to the next level, avoiding everything that's not a ladder. The tricky part is that as soon as the boy touches the square containing the ladder, he's immediately on the next level with enemies trying to get him.
Jet Ball
by Codefreeze (free) - A nice
Breakout
type of game. One thing I like about this app is that powerups fall from the sky fairly frequently, and another thing I like is that the levels can be cleared fairly quickly. After testing numerous Breakout-type apps, this one and Brick Breaker Special Edition (above) are my favorites.
Leo's Gun Defender
by Leopoldo Bueno Castillo (free) - Use your long-range cannon to shoot down airplanes before they bomb your castle. The cannon is constantly firing, and you simply slide your finger to move around and aim at the planes.
MiniLand (physics 2d)
by Perun Labs (free) - Tilt your device to roll the ball left or right, and tap the "up arrow" button to make the ball jump. The goal is to get the ball to the house, using the objects that you encounter. Some objects (e.g. dice) are small enough that the ball can push them around.
Orbital Defender Lite
by AddictiveZone.com (free) - Your spaceship is orbiting a planet, and you must defend the planet from all threats. Tap the screen to fire bullets at the place where you tapped (but don't fire bullets toward the planet). Shooting a power-up gives you a special weapon or some other bonus. Swipe your finger towards an enemy to fire a rocket. Long-press to release a bomb.
Phlux
by Deepesh Ramnani (free) - Use the left and right arrows plus the round jump button to move the black square. Collect the red, green, and blue circles, then go to the white platform. The weird lighting effects and shadows add to the challenge.
Phyzicle Sandbox
by Agop Shirinian (free) - Build contraptions using rectangles, circles, gears, and other shapes, and connect them using rods, springs, pins, motors, and so on. The objects in your contraptions interact with each other with realistic physics, and you can customize the gravity, bounciness, friction, density, color, and other properties. To see some things you can do in this type of game, take a look at the videos in
these YouTube search results.
Platform Panic
by Nitrome (free) - Swipe left, right, up, or down to move the character. The object is to stay alive as long as possible, and you earn one point each time you successfully pass through a room full of deadly obstacles. The rooms appear in a random order, which keeps the game interesting.
Pool Break 3D Billiard Snooker
by Kinetic Bytes (free) - This is the best pool app that I've tried. Before you can break, or after a foul, the white cue ball will have 4 arrows pointing from it so you can slide it to any position behind the faint green line. Slide your finger around the screen to tilt and rotate the pool table in order to line up your shot, then slide the cue stick away from the cue ball (the farther the stick is from the cue ball, the harder it will hit the ball). Tap the "Shoot" icon at the bottom right corner of the screen to shoot, or slide the cue stick towards the cue ball to shoot. The "magnifying glass" icon at the bottom left corner of the screen allows you to zoom in and out if your phone doesn't have pinch-to-zoom capability. The "up-arrow" icon displays several icons which allow you to adjust the screen brightness and colors. The "eyeball" icon puts you in "free view" mode, which lets you tilt and rotate the pool table without affecting the position of the cue stick. The "hand" icon puts you in "pan" mode, which doesn't seem to do anything on my phone. At the bottom right corner of the screen, the "cue stick" icon allows you to lift the heavier end of the cue stick higher or lower off of the table. The "cue ball" icon lets you change where the cue stick will hit the cue ball (to put a spin on the ball, for example). To play with two human players, use the "Pass-n-Play (or Solo)" option.
Powder Game Viewer
by DAN-BALL (free) - A nice "falling sand" game, which is better than most of the other "falling sand" apps I've tried. To see some things you can do in this type of game, take a look at the videos in
these YouTube search results for "Powder Game Viewer"
and
these YouTube search results for "falling sand."
You can play a similar game online at
Burning Sand 3.
Also see Burning Sand 3 (above).
ReBounce! - make trick shots!
by DIE KAPITÄNE Media GmbH (free) - Try to get the ball into the sphere. To play, tap the triangular "play" button on the initial screen, then tap a world (e.g. "New Dawn"). You'll be paired with a random player to compete against, even if you have no Internet connection (are these real people that we're playing against?). Drag your finger in the dark gray area to set the direction and amount of force, then lift your finger to shoot the ball. Also see Trick Shot (below).
Ski Challenge 13 FREE
by Greentube Internet Entertainment Solutions GmbH (free) - An amazingly realistic downhill ski racing game, with realistic sounds and wipeouts. I love snow skiing but I don't get to the slopes very often, so this game gives me the occasional feel of skiing for a few minutes. There's an Online option which requires an Internet connection, but I only use the offline Training option.
Slice
by Magma Mobile (free) - Several balls are bouncing around the playing field, and you must draw a straight line across any section of the playing field (by sliding your finger) to slice off that section. When you've sliced off the required percentage of the playing field (shown at the top of the screen) then you've beaten the level. If a ball touches the line before you lift your finger then the game is over.
SpyCube
by mainmint (free) - Use the thumb controller to move the spy character from the red square to the blue square in the shortest time, avoiding the security cameras and other security features. Sometimes there are levers which you must touch in order to deactivate certain security features. Tap "Reload" to start the level over.
Stickman Ski Racer (Free)
by Djinnworks e.U. (free) - Help Stickman ski to the end of the course (marked with a checkered flag). Long-press the left side of the screen to slow down, and long-press the right side of the screen to speed up. When you're airborne, tilt the phone to prepare for a perfect landing.
Super Stickman Golf 2
by Noodlecake Studios Inc (free) - This is kind of a combination of regular golf and mini-golf, because it has water traps and sand traps as in regular golf, but it also has other obstacles and challenges as in mini-golf. To play, tap the left and right arrow buttons at the bottom left corner of the screen to adjust the direction in which Stickman will hit the ball. To hit the ball, tap the "Go!" button to make the green "power meter" start rising, then tap the "Go!" button again to make Stickman swing and hit the ball (the higher the "power meter" has risen, the harder Stickman will hit the ball). Slide your finger around the screen to see more of the golf course.
Trick Shot
by Jonathan Topf (not free) - Try to get the ball into the box. To play, drag your finger in the gray area (outlined in pink) to set the direction and amount of force, then lift your finger to shoot the ball. If the ball hits the box before going into the box then you get an "OK" score. If the ball goes into the box without touching the box then you get a "Perfect" score. After you finish all of the levels, you can start over with level 1 but this time if you hit all of the pink circles and the ball goes into the box without touching the box then you get an "Amazing" score. To change levels, drag the background area up or down. Tap the "nine dots" icon at the bottom right corner of the screen to see a list of all of the levels. Also see ReBounce (above).
Ultraflow
by Ultrateam (free) - At the bottom of the screen is a small white circle with a number in it. Slide the circle upward past the dotted line in order to get it into the large pulsating white circle. The number in the small white circle indicates how many times it can bounce off of something before it's destroyed. While the small white circle is in motion, you can double-tap the screen to start over (single-tap the screen if the white circle is destroyed). After several unsuccessful attempts, a moving dotted line will show you the direction to slide the white circle.
